Guitar Tone Gurus (“GTG”, “we”) is a division of Sonny Bever LLC, a Texas limited liability company. This page explains what we collect when you use guitartonegurus.com, why we collect it, and what you can do about it. We don’t sell your data and we don’t show ads. We use Google Analytics to see how the site is used, as explained below.

What we collect

  • Account details: your name, email address, password (stored scrambled; we can’t read it) and location: country, state/province/region and city.
  • Your library and Picks: the packs you’ve got, when you got them, and your Picks history (bought, spent, expired).
  • Orders: what you bought and the amounts. Our payment provider handles your card and payment details; we never see them.
  • IP addresses: we record the IP address your account signs in and buys from. We use it to guess your country when you fill in your location, and to spot abuse such as someone making many accounts for free Picks. Country lookups happen on our own server; nothing is sent to an outside service. IP addresses are kept for 24 months, then deleted.
  • Reviews: if you review a pack, we keep your rating and what you wrote. Once approved, a review is public on the pack’s page under your first name and the first letter of your last name. Your email address is never shown.
  • Invites: if you join through a friend’s invite link, we record which account invited you, so both of you can get your bonus Picks.
  • Emails with us: if you write to us, we keep the conversation.

Artists who submit packs also give us their payout details and the packs they submit.

Why we use it

  • to run your account and library, and deliver the packs you get;
  • to keep track of Picks, including telling you before they expire;
  • to process orders, refunds and chargebacks;
  • to protect the site and stop abuse of free offers;
  • to understand, in totals, where our players are and which packs are popular;
  • to pay artists their share.

Analytics

We use Google Analytics 4 to understand how people use the site: which pages and packs are viewed, how visitors found us, roughly where they are (country and city), and what device and browser they use. It helps us decide what to make and fix.

  • Google Analytics uses cookies (such as _ga) to tell visits apart. It doesn’t get your name or email address from us, and it doesn’t store your IP address.
  • We’ve turned off Google’s advertising features (Google signals and ad personalisation), so this data isn’t used to show you ads or shared for advertising. We keep it for 14 months.
  • Google processes this data for us under its terms. See how Google uses data from sites that use its services.
  • Your choice: in the EU, the UK and other places that require it, analytics cookies are only set if you accept them in our cookie banner. You can change your mind at any time with Cookie settings at the bottom of every page. Anywhere, you can also block Google Analytics with Google’s opt-out browser add-on.

Emails we send

Account emails (such as password resets), Picks-expiry reminders and messages about your orders. We don’t send marketing emails unless you’ve asked for them.

Who else handles your data

Like most websites, we rely on trusted service providers to run GTG: for example to host the site, process payments, send email, pay artists, measure site use and play audio and video demos. They only get the information they need to do their job for us, and they must protect it. Some of them may store data outside your country.

We don’t sell your data or share it for advertising. We may share information if the law requires it, or to protect GTG, our users or the public from fraud or harm.

Cookies

  • Needed to work: keeping you signed in, a short-lived cookie while you reset your password, and one that remembers your cookie choice. These are always on.
  • Invite links: if you arrive through a friend’s invite link, a cookie remembers that invite for 30 days so we can give you both your bonus Picks if you create an account. It holds only the invite code, and it isn’t used for anything else.
  • Analytics: Google Analytics cookies, as described above. Where consent is required, only with your OK.
  • Demo players: the audio and video players on pack pages come from outside services, which may set their own cookies.

How long we keep it

  • Account, library and Picks history: while your account is open.
  • IP addresses: 24 months.
  • Order records: as long as we need them for tax and accounting, even after an account is closed.
  • Backups: copies of the database are kept for up to 30 days.

GTG 1.0 accounts

If you had an account on the old Guitar Tone Gurus site, we moved your name, email address, password (still scrambled) and the free packs you downloaded to the new site, so you can sign in and find your library. We also kept a record of past downloads from the old site, which we use for totals and popularity only. If you’d rather we deleted your moved account, email us.

Your choices and rights

You can see and change your details under Account. Email info@guitartonegurus.com to get a copy of your data, correct it, or close your account and delete it. Closing an account removes your library and any unspent Picks; order records are kept as described above. Depending on where you live (for example the EU, UK or California), you may have more rights, and we’ll honour them. You can also complain to your local data protection authority.

Children

GTG isn’t meant for children under 13, and we don’t knowingly collect their data. If you think a child has made an account, email us and we’ll delete it.

Changes and contact

We may update this policy and will change the date at the top when we do. If a change matters, we’ll tell you on the site or by email. Questions: info@guitartonegurus.com. See also our Terms of Use.
