About Guitar Tone Gurus

Guitar Tone Gurus exists because of one small red pedal.

How it started

When Line 6 released the POD Express, there was nowhere official to share presets for it. It wasn’t added to CustomTone, Line 6’s preset exchange, so players who had built a great sound had no way to hand it to anyone else.

So they did what guitarists do and worked around it. Our Facebook groups got busy. Players posted presets in threads, other players tweaked them and posted them back, and before long there were great tones scattered through hundreds of comments where nobody could find them a week later.

Sonny decided to build a website to fix that. We bounced a few names around, and Jacob came up with the one that stuck. In 2024, Guitar Tone Gurus launched as a site of its own: an easy place to find a preset, download it and load it up.

What happened next

Players showed up from everywhere.

  • Over 12,000 downloads of our packs so far.
  • Over 1,600 members here on the site, and growing.
  • Over 10,000 players in our Facebook user groups.
  • 93 countries. Our packs have gone all across the globe.

What began with one pedal now covers the whole family: POD Express, Pod Go, HX Stomp, Helix and Helix Stadium.

A small, tight crew

Giving presets away is a lot of work for no reward, and not many creators stick around for that. The ones who did are a small, tight community of working players spread all across the USA. They built the original packs, and they’re still here behind the scenes, brewing new ones.

Bill is our GTG admin and a pack creator.

We’re bringing in more creators too. Build tones yourself? We’d like to hear from you.

Why packs cost something now

For a long time everything here was free, and a lot of it still is. But a site like this costs money to run, and a good pack takes a creator many hours to build, test and get right.

So new custom packs now carry a small price. We keep it affordable on purpose: we charge just enough to keep the site running and to keep our creators building. That’s the whole plan. Nobody here is trying to get rich off a preset.

Why Picks

With players all over the world, we also needed a way for every country to be able to buy. So we created our own tokens. We call them Picks.

  • You buy Picks in bundles and spend them on any packs you like. A Pick is worth about a dollar, and the bigger bundles add free bonus Picks, so packs cost less than they would one at a time.
  • Buying works worldwide. Pick bundles are sold through Lemon Squeezy, our global merchant, which handles payments and local taxes wherever you are.
  • New accounts start with free welcome Picks, enough to try a few packs before you spend anything.
  • You can earn more by reviewing packs you own and by inviting friends.
  • Plenty is still free. Factory presets, community collections and utility packs cost nothing with an account.

If you were with us on the old site, everything you downloaded there is already in your library here, free.

Still community first

The look is new. The idea isn’t. We’re still a community of tone chasers helping each other sound better, and the Facebook groups are still where a lot of that happens. The site is where the best of it gets finished, tested and put somewhere you can find it.

Thanks for being part of it.
